Being able to read and write is the broken down definition of literacy hence literary means having to do with letters. According to one website literacy can be split into both dominant and powerful literacy, which are both controlled by secondary uses of language. Literacy is a part of all content areas, which you won't be able to move on throughout your education if you are not able to understand the topic of literacy. An example of where literacy may be found is in classrooms where you may be asked to read journal articles and write a following response on specific main ideas.
