Literacy, Video Games, and Pop culture

Post  taylorfoster on Sun Mar 03, 2013 1:03 pm

Gee uses literacy by talking about learning in school and how it is connected with video games or card games. Gee connects learning in school to video games by saying that kids can improve literacy by playing video games or card games. Reading Gees paper I thought it was very easy to read and flowed very well. Gee believes that literacy can be learned and improved through fun activities such as playing games.

I thought that Gees definition of literacy was very easy to understand. I also completely agreed with everything that Gee says in this paper. I really liked that Gee used Yu-Gi-Oh as an example of being literate because I can remember when everyone use to play Yu-Gi-Oh and using this as an example helped me understand the paper a lot better. I thought that overall Gees paper was very informative and easy to understand.

I'm literate in:

-facebook
-texting
-technology
-shopping
-movies
