Literacy, Video Games, and Popular Culture

Gee uses literacy in this paper to explain why children lack the ability to retain information taught to them in school but are able to retain information about video games and card games. Gee talks about how children have the ability to comprehend more complicated speech then they are taught. Children when playing card games or video games learn the language of the game and the rules of the game which is filled with complex terms and instructions. Gee says that if teachers used the same approach video games and card games use that children would learn more and become smarter. I think his arguments are very strong.
